Lunita July Dorn

Lunita July Dorn (b. 1999 in Berlin) is a painter whose large-scale works center on self-portraiture as a site of emotional and conceptual inquiry. Her figures inhabit a threshold between adolescence and adulthood, negotiating identity, vulnerability, and self-determination. Working with a radically intuitive approach, Dorn develops her compositions without preliminary sketches, allowing figures and environments to emerge simultaneously. Her paintings combine expressive, gestural mark-making with moments of precise detail, creating layered images that retain visible traces of revision and transformation. Drawing from personal memory as well as imagined scenarios, her work intertwines intimate experience with broader questions of identity and social context. Dorn studies at Kunsthochschule Weißensee in Berlin under Friederike Feldmann.
